Press release from UNC Greensboro Athletics: 6/14/2022 5:31:00 PM Story Links NCAA Announces Academic Progress Report SoCon Excels in NCAA conference APR data GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro athletics had all 17 teams receive satisfactory marks in the latest Academic Progress Report (APR) scores released by the NCAA Tuesday. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, and 2020-21 academic years. The public announcement of APRs returned after a one-year hiatus. The highlight of the report was that five Spartan teams had a perfect score of 1,000 during the 2020-21 academic year, including men's golf, men's tennis, softball, women's golf, and women's tennis. "Our student-athletes are continually excelling in the classroom," stated Kristin Rusboldt, Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Support Services & Diversity & Intercultural Engagement. "The academic progress rate is just one way this is showcased. It's really a group effort for continued success between the student-athletes, coaches, and student-athlete support programs. I'm proud of another great year for the Spartans." This was the first year that softball earned a perfect score, second-straight year that women's tennis earned a perfect score, fourth-straight year for women's golf and men's tennis, and third time since 2004-05 that men's golf has earned a perfect score. Men's Programs (Multiyear APR) Baseball (987) Basketball (986) Cross Country (994) Golf (1,000) Soccer (968) Tennis (1,000) Track (994) Women's Programs (Multiyear APR) Basketball (969) Cross Country (988) Golf (1,000) Soccer (995) Softball (1,000) Tennis (1,000) Track (988) Volleyball (995) UNCG is one of nine SoCon members that had at least one sport posting a perfect score of 1,000. Furman led the way with six and the Spartans were second with five. The APR measures eligibility, graduation, and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance. Since 2020, a portion of NCAA revenue has been distributed to members based on the academic achievement of student-athletes, including APR scores. Each school can earn one academic achievement unit per year if its student-athletes meet at least one of the following requirements: - Earn an overall single-year all-sport Academic Progress Rate of 985 or higher. - Earn an overall all-sport Graduation Success Rate of 90 percent or higher. - Earn a federal graduation rate that is at least 13 percentage points higher than the federal graduation rate of the student body at that school.
