Description

Press release from the City of Roswell: 06/14/2022 3:00 PM Starting July 1, 2022, individuals who use a credit or debit card to pay bills and fees through the City of Roswell will pay a service fee of 2.5 percent to cover fees assessed by credit card processors. Historically, the City of Roswell has absorbed these service fees, but with this change, the City will be able to redirect over $500,000 for other uses. Residents who currently have recurring, auto-drafted credit or debit card payments set up to pay their utility bill are encouraged to update their payment options before July 1 if they would like to avoid paying the card-related service fee. Mayor and City Council authorized the assessment of this service fee in order to recover merchant fee expenses at their June 13 meeting. Neighboring North Fulton cities like Johns Creek and Milton also pass merchant fees along to customers. The 2.5 percent fee only covers processing costs. Citizens will see the new service fee after July 1 if they use credit/debit cards for payments like property taxes, utility payments, court fines, and permits. For example, if an individual uses a credit card to pay for a $30 utility bill, they would pay a 75-cent service fee to cover the processing costs. After January 1, 2023, a service fee will also be assessed when a credit/debit card is used to pay for fees related to classes and programs offered by Roswell's Recreation, Parks, Historic, and Cultural Affairs Department. The City of Roswell offers several no-fee payment method alternatives, including cash or check payments, bank bill-pay (for utility and property tax payments only), and automatic bank draft (utilities only). Additional no-fee and convenient payment options will be forthcoming for Recreation, Parks, Historic, and Cultural Affairs' classes and programs.
