SMITHTOWN, NY — Joseph Arico, the Town of Smithtown director of parks, is set to receive the 2022 Partner in History Award during the annual Heritage Ball gala this fall, the town announced. Arico was selected by the Smithtown Historical Society. The Smithtown Historical Society hosted a breakfast on June 3 where the annual Heritage Ball honorees were announced. Every year, the Smithtown Historical Society chooses members throughout the township who demonstrate a love of conservation, community, a devotion to civics, and the mission of preserving and interpreting Smithtown history and culture. "Joe Arico and his team at the Parks Department work tirelessly every day to maintain the landscape, parks and properties of the town," Supervisor Ed Wehrheim stated. "His devotion to this community and helping organizations such as the Historical Society is endless. Joe literally never turns away when help is needed, no matter the time of day or night. It truly warms my heart to see him honored in such a prestigious fashion. This award is well deserved and I couldn't be prouder to witness him receive it." The 2022 Heritage Ball is scheduled for Nov. 3 at the Watermill Caterers in Smithtown. The 2022 Annual Heritage Gala honorees (Credit: Town of Smithtown) The 2022 Annual Heritage Gala honorees include St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center, as recipients of the Cornelia Smith Butler Community Service Award. Mary Ellen McCrossen will receive the award on behalf of the hospital. Longtime Historical Society supporter and Smithtown resident Margaret Durso is set to receive this year's Rockwell Award. Town of Smithtown Parks Director Joseph Arico will receive the Partner in History Award.
