Here are the top three stories today in Buckhead: Atlanta faces a federal police brutality lawsuit over its response to 2020 protests in downtown Atlanta and Buckhead. On May 29, 2020, several businesses in the area experienced vandalism and looting, which prompted a 9:00 p.m. curfew. Sean George, the man suing the city of Atlanta, alleges in the lawsuit that he was leaving one of the aforementioned protests at 8:30 p.m. when he was cuffed, kicked, and tasered by six officers. ( The Atlanta Journal Constitution, Subscription)Tech entrepreneur Marlon Williams has opened a co-working space in Buckhead. He hopes the center will help put Atlanta on the map for blockchain technology, which he believes prioritizes individual creators over large corporations. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Williams' co-working center and shared similar hopes for its future. (WABE 90.1 FM)On Monday, Jun. 13, Atlanta Fire Rescue battled a blaze at a two-story home in a Buckhead neighborhood. Although details are limited, the 11Alive Skytracker recorded footage of smoke pouring from the roof of the home. Fire officials have not yet shared what caused the fire or if there were any reported injuries.
