About Julie: Hi, I’m Julie Lee Rottman, baker and founder of “Jules Loaves,” a wife, and mother of three hungry, active, on-the-go kids, and one beloved Toodle, named George. My family emigrated to the US from S. Korea when I was three. My mother flew to America with three little ones without knowing a word of English. When handed forks on the airplane, my mother carefully observed the other passengers and hesitantly learned along with us how to use the foreign utensil. My family settled in New York City, where my parents ran a grocery store and where I eventually met my husband in high school. I remember my mother asking my older sister to go to the store and buy cabbage, which my sister promptly sent me to do. I told my kids about how I was punished for returning with a head of lettuce. There will be no lettuce used in my cooking class! “Monny moogo,” is a Korean term meaning “eat more.” My mom to this day will say this to me at every meal she makes. Her visits are less frequent now due to her aging, but when she does come to visit, she starts prepping right away and pretty much doesn’t leave my kitchen the whole duration of her visit. Food equals love in my household. I grew up watching my mom take humble ingredients and make delicious meals in minutes, and now I do the same for my kids. Korean cooking uses lots of fresh vegetables, spices, and tasty marinades that are sure to expand your family’s palettes and have you saying, “Eat more!”
