Description

Home to a wide variety of marine life within its rocky shores, Fitzgerald Marine Reserve is a popular park within San Mateo County. Its tidepools are populated with algae, crabs, sponges, star fish, mollusks, and fish; lucky visitors may even have the chance to see sea slugs or octopuses! As a part of the Montara State Marine reserve, this park's inclusion within a Marine Protected Area (MPA) ensures that the life here will be protected for generations to come. Come join us Saturday, July 9th and enjoy this park's natural wonders as we remove invasive plant species that threaten it! We ask that you wear closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothing you don't mind getting dirty for your protection and comfort. We also recommend that each member of your group bring a personal water bottle; drinking water may not always be available at our volunteer sites. Sunscreen, snacks, hats, and layers are also great to have on hand in case the weather gets warm or cold! If weather conditions are deemed too extreme, this event may be canceled and we will reach out to participants by email. If signing up as a family or a group, please adjust the number of volunteer sign-ups according to the number of volunteers in your party when filling out your registration form. Groups of eight or more must contact [email protected] at least seven days in advance to register. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be registered by a parent or guardian. Youth under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Our programs are recommended for ages 10 and up. Please reach out to us if you'd like to bring children younger than 10 years to volunteer, as we can plan ahead for all-ages projects on occasion. A reminder email with more detailed instructions on the day's activities and where to meet will also be sent in advance of the event. We look forward to seeing you in the parks! Please direct questions and comments for this event to Samantha Prado at [email protected]. Interested in receiving updates about future events? Follow us on Eventbrite or send an email to [email protected] to join our mailing list!
