Description

Constance Milburn of Glover School, was recently honored with the 2022 Margaret Voss Howard Teacher Recognition Award for Marblehead. Her nominators said that "Mrs. Milburn has turned a group of students without much, if any, formal schooling into students who have acquired grade-level skills, learned that school is a place of discovery and community, and become familiar with how to handle themselves in a manner that is in keeping with Glover School's motto, 'Choose kindness.'" They added, "Mrs. Milburn has begun to beautifully, successfully shape the children in her [kindergarten] class into "students." Roneline Ramoutarsingh (Mrs. Singh) of Witchcraft Heights Elementary School was the honoree from Salem. Both were nominated for their exceptional teaching, and for inspiring strong student progress--and joyful learning--even in the midst of upheaval due to the pandemic. They also exhibit great relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Each is a worthy "representative of all the excellent, dedicated teachers in the community who make a difference to children every day." They were chosen by a selection committee from nominations made by colleagues, parents, and students. The award is a fund of the Essex County Community Foundation.
