MILFORD, MA — State police will be on the lookout for impaired drivers this weekend somewhere in Worcester County. State police will helm a sobriety checkpoint starting on Friday and lasting into Saturday, according to police. State police do not release the locations of checkpoints ahead of time. "The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public's awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways," police said in a news release. "It will be operated during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety." The checkpoint could spring up anywhere in Worcester County's 1,500 square miles. Sobriety checkpoints are funded by funds from the state Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.
