Waterford Police Seize 'Non-Functioning' Explosive Device

WATERFORD, CT — Police resolved a suspicious device incident Monday afternoon. Police received a call at 12:55 p.m. reporting a possible explosive device inside a parked vehicle. "The device was unknowingly transported from an out of state location to a residence in Waterford," police wrote in a statement. "The resident contacted police immediately upon locating the item." Police initiated safety procedures to limit access to the area. Police said there was no immediate threat to the community and any risk was isolated to the immediate area of the device. State police's Emergency Services Unit Bomb Squad was contacted to assist. Bomb Squad members used specialized equipment and determined the device was "non-functioning and inert," according to the statement. Police seized the device and found no additional dangerous or explosive items. Anyone with information related to the case can contact police at 860-442-9451.
