TOMS RIVER, NJ — Toms River North junior Ayotunde Folawewo took home gold at the NJSIAA Group 4 girls track and field championships over the weekend, becoming the first group triple jump champion in school history.
Folawewo won the triple jump with a distance of 37 feet, 5 inches, beating Maisha Valme of Elizabeth High School by 5 inches at the competition at Franklin High School.
As the Group 4 girls triple jump champion, Folawewo advances to the NJSIAA Meet of Champions, where she comes in with the fifth-longest jump in the Group championships. Faith Bethea of Snyder jumped 40 feet, 4 inches to win Group 3 and lead the field. Alexandra Bonn of Union Catholic (Non-Public A champion, 37 feet, 10.25 inches), Shannan Harnett of Lakeland (Group 2 champ, 37 feet, 10 inches) and Leia Ruvo of High Point (Group 2, second place, 37 feet, 9.5 inches) are the other three jumpers ahead of Folawewo, according to the results on NJMilesplit.com.
Folawewo also won the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 4 girls triple jump with a distance of 35 feet, 9.5 inches.
The Meet of Champions is set for Saturday at Franklin High School. Field events begin at noon.
