Description

ARLINGTON COUNTY, VA — Arlington County will host a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday morning for its new Arlington Transit (ART) operations and maintenance facility. The public is invited to attend. The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. at the site of the future facility at 2629 Shirlington Rd. in Arlington in the Green Valley neighborhood. According to the county, the new facility represents the culmination of over eight years of planning to ground ART maintenance and operations in Arlington. County officials said it provides a modern long-term facility for reliable service, a high-quality work environment for ART's frontline workforce and supports the long-term growth and sustainability of ART. ART provides bus service throughout Arlington on 16 routes, supporting travel by our residents, workers, and visitors. County officials said they've significantly increased the number of routes and hours of service over the past 10 years and plans to continue growing during the next 20 years, supported by a fleet of more than 100 buses. In 2019, ART provided over 2.95 million passenger trips prior to the start of the pandemic and is expected to provide over 3 million annual trips post-pandemic.
