Press release from The Alliance for Health Equity: June 14, 2022 The Alliance for Health Equity is pleased to announce the 2022 Eastburn Community Service Award to Curt Martinez. Curt is known for his leadership within the Coatesville community, where he serves as the Chief Police Officer in West Caln Township. He has also served as the Coatesville High School Resource Center officer, Coatesville police officer, and South Coatesville police officer. This years Eastburn Community Service Award was surrounded around unsung heroes who have served the Coatesville community during the destruction of the COVID-19 pandemic and Hurricane Ida. During the pandemic, Curt participated in over 150 drive-by parades for children and seniors, and always brought his police dog for the children to see. He also devoted is time to senior citizens, where Curt ensured that everyone has what they needed during lockdown. During the flooding of Hurricane Ida, Curt rescued and brought residents to safety. As a native to Coatesville, Curt grew up and graduated from Coatesville Area School District (CASD). When not in uniform, he continues to wear CASD t-shirts and sweatshirts to show off his Coatesville pride, enthusiasm, and optimism for the City he grew up in. It seems whenever there is tragedy in the community Curt is there to lend a helping hand. On back-to-back days in 2014, Jacinda Miller and 3-year-old Scottie McMillan were both brutally killed in our Community. Curt's response to these tragedies was being instrumental in creating the Chester County Half Marathon which raised funds to support Jacinda's son, and he helped raise the money and build the Scottie's Trail Born Learning Trail on Struble Trail. On top of Curt's devotion to Coatesville during an increased time of need, he has also devoted his time to the United Way of Chester County. His work here includes being involved in the United Way Color Run Committee, attending the United Way Fundraiser annually, and serving on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee at United Way. More of Curt's community involvement includes: Fundraised and built Scotties Trail Born Learning Trail, Member of the Chester County District Attorney's Task Force for Race and Justice, Strawberry Festival involvement for more than a decade, Long time participation in the Coatesville Shop with a Cop program, Runs a Toys for Tots drive at his police department, Currently has his 3rd police K-9 to support the Coatesville community, which is a 24/7 responsibility, Annually assists with the Chester County School Bus Safety Competition, Drives kids annually in the Coatesville Prom Parade, Participated in recovery efforts in New York on 9/11, and Participates in the Camp Cadet program to help mentor kids.
