Description
SALEM, NH — Amid a recent rise in scam calls, the Salem Police Department is reminding residents to be cautious when asked to pay with cryptocurrency.
Callers can pose as store managers or other officials, police said in a Facebook post, and request that you withdraw money from your own checking account to deposit into a Bitcoin ATM or to purchase cryptocurrency on an app.
The best thing to do in these situations is hang up and block the caller's number. If you continue to get scam calls, you can either contact the Salem Police Department, at 603-893-1911, or the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
