Description
PETALUMA, CA — A fire erupted early Sunday morning at Steamer Landing Park, prompting officers to evacuate some encampments at the park, the Petaluma Police Department said.
The fire was reported at 12:25 a.m. and when officers responded they saw 3-foot-high flames spreading to the dry brush near the southeast end of Steamer Landing Park, police said.
As the fire spread, two propane tanks caught fire and expelled flames approximately 7 feet in the air, according to Petaluma police Lt. Nick McGowan.
As the Petaluma Fire Department worked to contain the fire, officers evacuated the encampments that were in danger, McGowan said.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation; police asked anyone with information to call 707-778-4372.
