Description
PITTSBURGH, PA — Dogs, birds, and raccoons might be familiar sights in downtown Pittsburgh, but what about wolves and deer, or dragons?
You could see all these creatures and more as Anthrocon returns to the convention center downtown from June 30-July 3. Anthrocon celebrates anthropomorphic (humanlike) animal characters and the people who identify with, create, and draw them.
The annual meeting of fursuited people, or "furries," and their animal alter-egos has not taken place for two years because of COVID-19.
The convention schedule lists a number of events, from dancing and meet-ups to workshops about writing, creating a character, and making a fursuit. There's even a "Fursuit Price Is Right."
Also, artists and creators will be selling their goods throughout the weekend.
There will also be a block party on July 2 on Penn Avenue between 9th and 11th Streets.
"We're partnering with the City of Pittsburgh, along with local establishments and services to create an afternoon of friendly, safe mingling where we can share the magic of our fandom," Anthrocon said on its website. The block party is between noon and 9 p.m. on that Saturday.
We hope you're as excited for our new #Anthrocon Block Party happening this year, which will run all day long on Penn Avenue! 🎉🐾 Find out more details on our website! https://t.co/RxW166Djbi Photo: https://t.co/2fv6ABeIWF pic.twitter.com/P5pT0zZEmr— #Anthrocon, Inc. Online pre-registration has ended. At-the-door registration begins June 30 at 2 p.m. in the convention center. There are additional policies in place for minors.
