Description
AKT, a new dance-cardio workout featuring carefully curated playlists, high-energy music, and a supportive community, recently opened its first Chicago location in Old Town on May 30. The new AKT studio at 1100 N. Wells St. will allow Chicago to experience a full body workout that combines cardio dance intervals with strength and toning. AKT has become increasingly popular because of its effective and fun dance-cardio technique touted by celebrities like Kelly Ripa, Shakira and Alicia Keys. Fueled by positivity, a combination of personal training, and dance-cardio technique, each of the four class types – DANCE, BANDS, TONE and CIRCUIT – are kept fresh and entertaining as the choreography changes every three weeks. Each 60-minute, full-body workout class is designed to burn calories, strengthen, and tone in an atmosphere that’s fun, exhilarating and results-driven. The four signature class types at AKT are described as: DANCE alternates between choreographed dance sections and short strength intervals. BANDS alternates between functional cardio and longer strength intervals as members perform sports-based exercises with the stability of a box. TONE pairs full-body strength with isometric movements to burn out large and intrinsic muscles on every plane of motion. CIRCUIT combines plyometric full body power exercises with medium weight compound strength movements in 30 second and 15 second intervals. AKT Old Town is owned and operated by local entrepreneur, Nisha Moeller. Originally from Singapore, Moeller came to America in 1992 and eventually moved to Chicago in 1997. Moeller became passionate about dance fitness classes and found AKT after she moved to the East Coast. Falling in love with the AKT atmosphere, Moeller decided to bring her passion to her hometown of Chicago and will open the first studio in Illinois. “I want to share my love for dance fitness with my neighbors and help build a community passionate about healthy living,” said Moeller. “AKT will make sure people feel welcome and our classes will be designed for members to have fun, improve their health, and meet new friends.” For more information about the new AKT studio in Chicago, please call 331-900-4440, or visit https://www.theakt.com/location/old-town.
