TUCSON, AZ —Two men were shot and killed early Saturday while trying to rob another man at a Tucson apartment complex, according to the Tucson Police Department.
Police said the victim of the attempted robbery suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound in the shootout.
Ricky Green, 50, and Romeo Salaz, 23, were pronounced dead at the scene, which was a building located in the 400 block of E. Prince Rd.
According to police reports, officers responded to the apartment complex at 4:48 am. after several reports of gunfire.
When officers arrived they found the robbery victim, who has not been named publicly, in the building's courtyard. He was transported to Banner University Medical Center and is expected to survive.
Officers at the scene also made contact at an apartment within the complex, where they located Green and Salaz on the floor inside, according to reports.
The TPD said its homicide detectives conducted an investigation and learned that Green and Salaz were involved in an attempted robbery of the victim. During the course of the robbery, a physical altercation took place and several shots were fired, striking all three men.
Investigators also conducted interviews and collected additional evidence after obtaining a search warrant, the TPD said.
The department said that no arrests have been made at this time, and TPD detectives said they do not believe there are any outstanding suspects.
According to the TPD, detectives will present the findings of their investigation to the Pima County Attorney's Office for further review.
