Senator John Kennedy rented the house directly across the street from Yarrow Mamout's property, albeit 140 years later. Kennedy and Yarrow are also connected in odd and tragic ways to City Tavern in Johnston's books. The formerly enslaved Yarrow knew most of the movers and shakers who held business meetings at the tavern. It was at City Tavern that CIA men plotting the assassination of Fidel Castro were having lunch on November 22, 1963, when they heard of Kennedy's assassination in Dallas. One quipped, "I sure hope that guy [Oswald] doesn't have anything to do with Cuba."
Jim Johnston will elaborate on how Georgetown and the City Tavern fit into his books.
