Description

Join us on July 7 to explore how water moves through and interacts with our different landscapes through a tour of Islandacres Farm - from the field to the bay! We’ll be joined by Steve Robison, farmer and owner of Islandacres and Karen Bates, Master Naturalist and Basin Planner for the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation. Steve will share a bit about the history and future of farming on the Islands and how he’s implemented efficient and effective practices in efforts to improve water quality. And as an expert in all thing’s water, Karen will be on hand to lift the curtain on the unique ecosystems of South Hero, while teaching us how to conserve our treasured natural resources. Throughout our walk, we’ll explore the small steps we can take on our individual landscapes to protect Keeler Bay and greater lake. The first step to protecting the health of our lake, lands, and communities is knowing more about our watershed, and where we fit into the bigger picture! Bring mud-friendly shoes, water, and bug spray. This event is hosted by Grand Isle County Natural Resources Conservation District and South Hero Land Trust. Did you know that we all live in a watershed? A watershed is an area of land where all rain, snowmelt, and water drain into a body of water - such as a lake or river. We live in the Lake Champlain Basin - eight thousand square miles of mountains, forests, farmlands and communities. Get to know your corner of the watershed. Please note that for all in-person events, if you are experiencing symptoms of illness, or are a close contact/exposed to COVID-19, as defined by the CDC, please do not attend. We'll send a reminder email prior to the event with parking and meeting spot details. This event is free and open to all. Email [email protected] with any questions. This project has been funded wholly or in part by the United States Environmental Protection Agency under assistance agreement (LC-00A00695-0) to NEIWPCC in partnership with the Lake Champlain Basin Program.
