Dubuque County Conservation is excited to announce a new planning effort to develop and sponsor additional river paddling routes in the County. We are working with the Iowa DNR Water Trails Program and Stantec to study segments of 3 rivers to determine their feasibility for designation as State Water Trails.
READY-SET-PADDLE is a one-month kickoff event for the Paddle Driftless Dubuque County 2022 Water Trail Planning Project. To view the Story map click here: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/adeec8e279db484084751d20179d912b
The official kick-off event runs between June 4th and July 3rd on 3 stretches of Dubuque County streams. Dubuque County Conservation is going to have several limited spot-guided paddles.
The one is on the North Fork of the Maquoketa River near Cascade, Iowa. The guided paddle will start above Cascade end nearly 3 miles downriver. The accesses at this point are undeveloped and parking is limited. To join this paddle you must utilize one of our kayaks and register with us.
--$5/person
--Suggested age: Adult
--This river is narrow and can be shallow in spots.
--PFD, Kayaks, paddles, guides, and a shuttle are provided.
--Further details will be emailed after registering.
The North Fork of the Maquoketa River offers deeply forested landscapes combined with agricultural fields and rock outcroppings.
If you can't make our paddle and have access to your own gear we encourage you to safely explore these rivers and their public lands at your own pace and schedule. We are collecting user information and feedback as well as holding public guided paddles during this timeframe. Join our mailing list here:
