Description
One-third of all food produced in the US is wasted, ultimately becoming a larger contributor to greenhouse gases than the airline industry – and yet, 26 million Americans struggle to get enough to eat. Join us for a discussion on how innovative organizations are using technology to provide solutions that eliminate waste, distribute food to those in need and create more sustainable food systems. Featured speakers: Kashi Sehgal is Founder & CEO at Retaaza, a social a enterprise that strives to make local food more accessible and affordable, directly supports our communities’ farmers, reconnects consumers to their food, and feeds families struggling with food insecurity.Grayson Stuart is Sustainability Coordinator at Goodr, where they believe that hunger isn’t a scarcity issue. It’s a matter of logistics. Founded on the simple yet powerful idea that we need to feed more and waste less, Goodr started as a local initiative to feed people experiencing food insecurity in Atlanta has grown into a national network with long-lasting impact.Natasha Dyer is the Community Programs Manager for the City of Atlanta. In this role, and as part of the City’s Food Access and Climate Action plans, she works on a Food Systems Team where she focuses on creating programs that divert food from the waste stream. These programs include recovering edible surplus food to feed food insecure residents and collaborating with external partners to create decentralized, localized composting solutions that benefit municipally-supported urban agriculture.Kim Eger is an SVP at Foodservice Sustainability Solutions. FSS is a technology company specializing in Georgia Made™ creative, on-site reduction of recyclable materials. From food waste to foam (polystyrene, #6), FSS believes in first densifying or reducing the mass on-site by 80% or more - and then channeling the residual material to its next highest value in a new Life Cycle. That may be as a compost feedstock or animal feed, if it’s food waste at the start of its journey. Our moderator for this impactful panel discussion will be Eri Saikawa, a professor at Emory University whose research topics include sustainability and food systems. - Consistent with our theme, food and beverage will be provided for event attendees and any food waste will be composted or redistributed. Free parking is available at the event venue. - Atlanta Climate Tech would like to give special thanks to our event sponsor, Foodservice Sustainability Solutions, and our venue partner KITT Labs, for their support in making this event possible.
