Man Smashes Westborough Fire HQ, Aims Infrared Thermometer At Police

WESTBOROUGH, MA — A Northborough man was arrested and charged early Monday morning after he smashed through the doors at a Westborough fire station, and then pointed a thermometer at police who responded to the scene. The incident happened just before 3:30 a.m. Monday when dispatchers heard breaking glass at an entrance to the 42 Milk St. fire station and 911 call center. When two Westborough officers arrived, the man pointed what appeared to be a red laser, according to a town news release. When three Westborough officers arrived, they also saw the device — but were able to see that it was an infrared thermometer, the type typically used in cooking or to take a person's temperature. Police also discovered that the man broke into a firefighter's vehicle parked at the station. The Northborough man, a Hamilton Road resident, was charged with defacing property, breaking into a building at night to commit a felony, breaking into a vehicle and receiving stolen property.
