Native Plant Transplant Day

Other

3040 Stone Park Drive Northeast,Rochester MN 55906

25 June, 2022

Description

Rochester Parks and Recreation has native sedges in one of their new neighborhood parks which need a home prior to the parks development. We are looking for folks interested getting their hands dirty to transplant these sedges to more natural areas in other parks. There are many groups of this Carex Pennsylvanica (Oak Sedge, Pennsylvania Sedge) as pictured above which can be transplanted to some areas within the park system which are being restored to their natural state. Oak Sedge is native throughout most of Minnesota and typically found in wooded or semi-wooded areas and spread to form large colonies, thus providing good erosion control and weed prevention among other benefits.
