COACHELLA VALLEY, CA — The Friends of the Desert Hot Springs Library organization announced Monday it has received a $25,000 grant to purchase 3-D printers, tablets. The Coachella Valley Spotlight grant was awarded by the Palm Desert-based H.N. and France C. Berger Foundation. "Much of the equipment and materials that we'll be able to purchase are not easily accessible to our Desert Hot Springs residents," Friends of the Desert Hot Springs Library secretary Sally Hedberg aid. "Now they will be." The grant will also fund science, engineering, art and technology materials for people of all ages. The organization also plans to purchase English literacy software for adults and children, since about 55% of the community's first language is Spanish. The Friends organization has volunteered and raised funds for the library since 1984 with the goal of creating a community center for lifelong learning. The current library's one-year anniversary will be celebrated with the public June 25 at an event featuring the Mariachi Palm Springs Band, refreshments and a showcase of the available programs at the facility at 14380 Palm Drive.
