MINNEAPOLIS — On July 1, the minimum wage in Minneapolis will increase to $13.50 for small business employees and $15 for large businesses. The increase is part of the city's minimum wage ordinance that passed in 2017. Under the ordinance, small businesses employ 100 or fewer employees. Any business with over 100 employees is considered a large business. Tips and gratuities that a worker may earn do not count toward the payment of the city's minimum wage. "Increases in Minneapolis' minimum wage directly benefit tens of thousands of families and the economy," the city said. "The ordinance supports the City's goals of promoting economic inclusion and reducing economic and racial disparities." The Minneapolis. Department of Civil Rights enforces wage law. Workers can report violations here. A study of the economic impact of the wage ordinance is being conducted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, according to a news release.
