Press release from the Inver Grove Heights Schools: June 13, 2022 Inver Grove Heights Schools alumnus Charlie Rea returned to the Special Olympics USA Games this summer, earning three medals in track and field events. Charlie began his Special Olympics career when he qualified for the 2018 USA Games as a bocce ball player for Team Minnesota. That year, he won gold in the team event and earned bronze in the singles event. This June, Charlie traveled to Orlando, Florida, to compete alongside more than 5,500 athletes from across the nation. As a Team Minnesota track and field athlete, he earned a silver medal in the 50-meter dash, a silver medal in the 100-meter walk, and a bronze medal in the 400-meter walk. The track and field events were held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Disney World's property and filmed for ESPN3.
