ROMEOVILLE, IL — Waste Management pick-up will be starting a half hour earlier than normal this week due to the extreme heat, the Village of Romeoville said on its Facebook page. Cooling centers are also available in Romeoville as dangerous heat approaches the Chicago area.
The National Weather Service Chicago is warning of dangerously hot temperatures, with heat index values between 105 and 109 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday.
The weather service has issued a heat advisory from noon Tuesday to 8 p.m. Wednesday. In Romeoville, the expected high is 98 degrees on Tuesday and 97 on Wednesday.
The Recreation Center, 900 W. Romeo Road, is open as a cooling center from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekend. If you require a cooling center after these hours, you can contact the Romeoville Police Department at 815-886-7219.
Stay Safe In The Heat Heat-related illness can develop in less than 30 minutes of strenuous activity.
The NWS urges residents to limit strenuous outdoor activities and to minimize sun exposure. Near leave children or pets in unattended vehicles.
Residents should stay hydrated, with frequent breaks in air conditioning.
