LessonBee introduces health platform to Yonkers housing authority

RYE BROOK, NY (June 10, 2022) – The health education platform LessonBee willintroduce its instructional program this summer to Yonkers' affordable housingresidents as part of the Westchester Innovation Network. LessonBee's culturally relevant health and emotional-skills programs willtarget children living in complexes operated by the Municipal Housing Authorityfor the City of Yonkers. The company's self-paced online content library withskill-building lessons for middle- to high-school grades has produced measurablegains in classrooms where it has been deployed. "We want this to be a lifestyle experience where young people can spend asmuch time developing health knowledge and skills as they do on core academicsubjects," said Reva McPollom, the founder and CEO of LessonBee. "That's whyhaving partnerships that fit outside of K-12 is really important to us." LessonBee—based in Mount Vernon, N.Y.—joined the Westchester InnovationNetwork (WIN) in the spring and the early-stage ed-tech company was matchedwith the Yonkers housing authority, which is also working with several otherWIN participants. "Our staff is committed to providing the best environment for our tenants,"said Wilson Kimball, president and CEO of the authority. "Last year, weprovided more than 800 virtual classes, programs and services for our tenantsranging from exercise to meditation. LessonBee's health instruction classeswill complement the array of services we will offer our youth this summer as wework to bridge the digital divide." WIN is an initiative of the Business Council of Westchester to propelinnovation forward as the foundation for the future of economic growth inWestchester County, N.Y. The program matches innovators with localcollaborators to test new products. "The Yonkers housing authority is the fourth largest in New York, and thisscale is an attractive match for the WIN participants who are eager to testtheir products or services," said Marsha Gordon, president and CEO of theBusiness Council of Westchester, which launched WIN in December.
