Working Band Looking for Drummer
Meets
Hammond LA
Description
We are a busy, well paid, and well received band, looking for a drummer who is the right fit. #1 You have to be able to keep steady time. No speeding and no dragging, unless it is part of the groove of the song. #2 Be able to use advanced rhythm techniques. Play the right beat, whatever that means in the context of that song. Play on, behind, or in front of the beat, as the song calls for it. Be able to push and pull tempo, not just to speed up or slow down, but rather as a construct of groove. Some of the music that we play, employs that skill. #3 Play with dynamics. Play loud and soft when you are supposed to, but most important of all, be able to get loud without speeding up, and be able to play soft without slowing down. #4 No heavy drinking or drug use. A few drinks throughout the night is fine, but we don't like, don't want to, and will not play with drunk members. Smoking is fine, as long as it doesn't affect the music. #5 Be able to accept criticism and make the necessary adjustments. Everyone has a different idea of what they are supposed to be playing, and proper communication is key to making good tight music. If you're just going to get defensive and not listen, then it is not going to work. #6 You need to be versatile. We play a variety of music and are working on expanding the genres covered, but we need a drummer who knows how to properly play many genres. Right now, we are playing Blues, southern rock, classic rock, classic/outlaw country, R&B, and we would like to expand that. #7 Honor the song. You need to have the ability to properly cover songs. Some songs we play our own way and some songs we practically perform a tribute. We have found that songs we played for 25 years and thought we knew, we really didn't know as well as we thought. Be willing to revisit those song yourself. #8 You need to be able to jam. The bassist and guitarist come from a Jamband background, and while we are cognizant that no one wants to hear 15 minutes of guitar work, we do take the opportunity to share some jamming with the right crowd. That requires you to be able to be fluid and follow the music where it goes. #9 You need to have good equipment and know how to properly configure and tune it. We mic the kit, so the drums need to sound good. #10 The music comes first. No one is the star and we don't like egos on our stage. If you feel like you are the show or that you have to put on a show, I can tell you that it is probably not going to work out. We want everyone to have a good time, but the music is the show and if that's a problem, then it won't be a good fit. #11 We record practice and summarize it in written form. You will have the recording to reference and the written summary, if you prefer that. We expect that if we practice something, that you will show up to the gig and play it the way we practiced. Mistakes will happen, but blatant disregard for what we have decided, discussed, and practiced, will not be tolerated. #12 We are a busy band, so you need to have the time and energy for that. In addition to playing 1-2 nights per weekend, we try to practice 2 or 3 times a month, depending on our schedule. If you have a place to practice, then we can practice at your place. Otherwise, practice will be in Osyka, MS. I know that we are looking for someone very specific, but it makes sense that you know exactly what you are signing up for and what is expected, if you want to join this band. Full disclosure and no surprises. We are a professional band and a group of laid back guys, and we don't appreciate unnecessary drama in any way shape or form. We just want to play the best music we possibly can, and we are not settling for less than that, and are not apologizing for it.
