Description

After a sold-out debut event in 2022, the second annual Legends of Grayson Old-Time Weekend again will be held at the historic 1908 Courthouse in Independence, Va. on March 31 - April 1, 2023. Benefitting Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) and The Mt. Rogers School, this festive weekend celebration honors past musical greats from Grayson County who continue to influence new generations. The 2023 honorees are clawhammer banjo pioneer Wade Ward and folk singing great Donna Correll. Legends of Grayson is a related event of The Crooked Road and The Blue Ridge Music Center and is developed by Peach Bottom Partners with support from Grayson County Tourism. It's two days of music, history, storytelling, dance, workshops and fun in heart of the Blue Ridge. Evening concerts will showcase Eddie Bond, the 2018 National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship honoree, and the New Ballards Branch Bogtrotters, Mac Traynham and Friends, former NPR host and celebrated musician Paul Brown, Chris Testerman and the Cabin Creek Boys, Wayne Henderson and an all-star cast of musicians and storytellers. Wade Ward's family members, friends and bandmates will be hand to play and discuss his legacy. Plus master-led jams and workshops throughout bot days from local musicians, along with lively roundtable storytelling by those who lived the experience. There's also a special tribute organized by Wolfe Brothers Stringband founder Jerry Correll to honor Grayson's own Donna Correll, the folksinger and bassist who left an indelible mark on the cultural fabric of Grayson County and beyond. Once again, Legends will feature a special JAM show presented by Brett Morris with up-and-coming young players. Delicious food options will be available at the event site with plenty of lodging nearby. All part of a immersive experience you'll never forget.
