Established in 1776, the Mission has been a witness to all of San Francisco's history including the California Gold Rush and the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. Truly historic! Next, take time to contemplate the Clarion Alley Mural Project, established by a volunteer collective of resident artists using public art as a force for marginalized communities and social justice causes. The project has produced over 700 murals by artists of all ethnicities, ages, and levels of experience. The tour has an answer to any growing hunger pangs, the home of the Mission-style burrito–Taqueria La Cumbre. Sit down to a sampler plate of their tacos and virgin margaritas, both highly praised by locals (and Anthony Bourdain!). Fun fact: Classic Latin-Rock Santana once worked at La Cumbre! Next up is Dandelion Chocolate, a bean-to-bar chocolate maker based in the Mission District. Learn how their chocolate artists roast, crack, sort, winnow, grind, conch, and temper small batches, then mold bars by hand. Before leaving, enjoy a Brownie Bite Flight featuring different chocolates. Prepare yourself for The Women’s Building, a Mission District of San Francisco institution. It has helped thousands of women gain access to social services, workshops, wellness classes, and community connections. The building’s exterior features the MaestraPeace mural, a testament to the courageous contributions of women through time. Ready for some hand-made happiness? We’ll take a short walk to Bi-Rite Creamery, famous for intensely flavored, organic and sustainable ice creams. No matter what flavor you choose, it features locally-sourced ingredients, seasonal fruits and handmade inclusions. After taking in this remarkable place, your guide will lead you to nearby Dolores Park to enjoy your frozen treat. The tour ends here, but you can linger as long as you like taking in the city view and relaxing with locals on the grassy lawn. This tour involves a 1.5 mile, mostly flat, walk through the streets of San Francisco. If that seems too physically demanding, then this may not be the best tour option for you. This tour is approximately 3 hours in total. Light rain in the winter season is common in San Francisco. We will normally run the tour in these conditions. However, if the forecast is for a severe storm or thunder, we will cancel and tour and offer to reschedule or refund your tour.
