Press release from the Reading Public Library: June 12, 2022 The Library and the book drop will be closed Monday, June 20, in observance of the new state holiday, Juneteenth. Our normal hours will resume on Tuesday, June 21. Juneteenth is a holiday celebrating the emancipation of those who had been enslaved in the United States. It is commemorated on the anniversary date of the June 19, 1865 announcement by Union Army general Gordon Granger, proclaiming freedom from slavery in Texas.
