Portland Jogger Nearly Abducted; Police Seek Public's Help

PORTLAND, OR — A woman jogging in Portland's South Tabor neighborhood was nearly abducted Saturday when a man approached her with a gun and demanded she get in his car, according to police. Shortly before 4:30 a.m., Portland police were called to an area near Southeast 70th Avenue and Southeast Woodward Street where they found a woman hiding in the bushes. The woman told police she was approached by a man in a car while jogging. The man initiated a conversation with her by asking for directions, police said. According to authorities, the man then took out a gun and demanded she get in his car. The woman was able to run away, police said, and the suspect drove away. The woman was not hurt, according to authorities who searched the area for the suspect but were unable to locate him. Detectives are investigating the incident and are requesting that anyone in the area with surveillance cameras check their footage to see if the suspect or his vehicle was captured on video. The suspect is described as a Black male in his 30s or 40s, police said. He has a close-trimmed beard and possibly was wearing glasses. The woman told police he was soft-spoken, but he might have been speaking quietly in an attempt to draw her closer. His vehicle was described as an "older model" light green Subaru Outback.
