Here are the top three stories in Dacula today: A Gwinnett County K9 deputy handler has been released from the hospital. The handler, whose name has not been released to the public, received treatment for injuries sustained during a police chase that occurred on Friday evening on Sweetwater Road. Suspect 34-year-old James Edward Perkins shot the deputy handler during a traffic stop in a stolen vehicle; Perkins is currently in critical condition at Northside Hospital Gwinnett as of Sunday evening. Jeanne "Jeannie" Hidalgo will serve as principal for Dacula High School. Logan Malm will be the new principal of Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology. Shamarlas Allens will be the new principal at Pharr Elementary School.
