Description

Lauren Hough is a New York Times Best Selling author and essayist. She was born in Berlin, Germany, and raised in seven countries, and Amarillo, Texas. She’s been an Air Force Airman, a green-aproned barista, a bouncer, a bartender, and, for a time, a cable guy. Leaving Isn't The Hardest Thing (2021, Vintage) is a collection of searing and extremely personal essays from the heart of working-class America, shot through with the darkest elements the country can manifest – cults, homelessness, and hunger – while discovering light and humor in unexpected corners. Andrea Pitzer will be hosting our conversation with Lauren at AYA. She is the author of three books, most recently Icebound: Shipwrecked at the Edge of the World, which narrates the three Arctic voyages of Dutch navigator William Barents. She went on three Arctic expeditions herself to research the book. She was a freelance journalist, a music critic, a portrait painter, a French translator, a record store manager, and a martial arts and self-defense instructor (but not all at the same time). She grew up in West Virginia and currently lives with her family in northern Virginia. Introducing the two is our beloved host of Greetings From Queer Mountain, Samantha Greinert, who will give us a reading before Lauren and Andrea begin their discussion. *Books will be on sale for signing at the event provided by Little District Books! *Visit https://laurenhoughauthor.com/ to learn more about Lauren or order her book!
