Every year on World Refugee Day, we’re focused on telling the stories of refugees—of people beyond numbers—and showing the power of welcoming refugees. World Refugee Day 2022 is an effort to invite the world to see people beyond the label of a refugee, beyond the moment they became a refugee, and igniting a movement of pride in who refugees are. IRC's goal is to change the narrative of refugees that is typically portrayed—with refugees telling their own stories on how they want to be seen, and showing the world their hopes, dreams, and values. Refugees are multi-dimensional human beings—more than the label of a refugee and not defined by their displacement. Refugees bring much more to the world than what they carry in their bags—they bring hopes, dreams, joy, and values. On this special day, we want to celebrate with refugee families and welcome them into our community. Bring your families, friends, and loved ones, and a celebratory attitude. Event Details: Address: Namaste Garden/St. Thomas Catholic Church 4415 South 140th Street Tukwila, WA 98168. Parking will be available at the parking lot connected to the church. Street parking is also available and free. This in-person event will take place in the social hall inside the church and will also take place in the grassy area next to the church along with the Namaste Garden very nearby. The social hall is wheelchair accessible and indoor restrooms are available and also wheelchair accessible. Outdoor restrooms are available as well but are not accessible. Below are some activities you can expect at the event: - IRC Namaste Garden Tours with the Community Gardeners -Seed Planting Activity -Rock Painting Activity -Complimentary Food & Refreshments for Attendees (Halal and vegetarian options available) -Raffle Prizes -Recreational activities -Painting, coloring, drawing And much more... This event is FREE but we always welcome donations to help fund the event. We are requesting : -Staff members and community members for a suggested donation of $10 per person. -Clients and children are FREE. -Any Organizational partner who would like to sponsor the food portion of the event, please send an email with your organizations logo to [email protected] after you have done so, so we would like to thank you on our social media platform.
