Learning to ride a bicycle is a moment in someone’s life that will likely be a lifelong memory. Many times, it is a moment of huge growth and accomplishment. Once pedaling is mastered, it feels easy; but learning to ride a bicycle is not simple. Learn to Pedal Rider General Description: We welcome children who: have no experience with a bicycle whatsoeverhave experience with training wheels or strider type bicycles may be fearful / hesitant / resistant / emotionalstruggle to hold their balance on a bikeBeginner Riders General Description: We welcome children who: can pedal but use their feet to stop or having trouble stoppinghave slow reaction times have a hard time starting or weave excessively while ridingThis camp is designed to fundamentally change your beginning child’s riding ability regardless of what level of beginner rider they start from. Every child learns at a different rate, and some progress faster than others. We guarantee that every participant in this class will highly benefit from our instruction. Class operates in a safe, enclosed parking lot as a learning environment. We use this setting to create a variety of courses to teach adaptive drills and techniques so children can practice fundamental skills safely at their own pace. After this camp, you will be able to practice with your kids by taking them to ride with you in a safe area. If your child has special needs, please contact us to discuss options that will offer appropriate support for your child’s success. What KIDS should bring to Camp/Clinic: Bike: We will do general safety checks, and bike fits. Your child's bike should be appropriate for her/his size, have functioning brakes (hand or foot), no loose nuts/bolts, inflated tires, bar ends-no metal handle bars sticking out from the grips, and any gears/shifters need to be in good working condition. We recommend having your child's bike safety checked at your local bike shop if you're experiencing problems (see recommendations on our website). Helmet: Wearing a helmet is mandatory during this camp for any activity on the bike. We will teach elements of helmet safety and helmet fit. The majority of the kids who come to our classes need it fit and many times it's obvious parents haven't tried to adjust the helmet to their child's head. Please take 5 minutes and try to fit your child's helmet to their head- show them how the buckle physically works and have them practice using the clasp even if they aren't strong enough as well as rotating the dial in the back that adjusts the helmets "basket" fit (if helmet is equipped). It's good practice.
