Rochester Cajun Zydeco Network (RCZN) hosts Nathan & the Zydeco Cha-Chas from SW Louisiana on Sun 6/26, closing out our 2021-22 ~ Music and Dance Series @ Harmony House in Webster NY. RCZN has been bringing the BEST in Louisiana Cajun & Zydeco to Upstate NY for over 20 years, and are HONORED to finally have Nathan Williams, one of the most loved Zydeco artists in the world, grace our Dance Hall scene. Nathan Williams, leader of the Zydeco Cha Chas, continues the lineage of piano keyboard accordion players like greats Clifton Chenier and Buckwheat Zydeco (Nathan’s inspirational mentor). Like those artists, his approach to zydeco is often influenced by a citified rhythm and blues style and enjoys a wide-open attitude in his choice of material. Nathan grew up in a Creole-speaking home in St. Martinville, LA, the youngest of seven where times were hard with the passing of their father when he was only seven years old. Nathan developed his musical sensibility in a family rich in Creole Music, following in the footsteps of his uncle, revered guitarist Harry Hypolite described by some as a modern Creole Chuck Berry, who played for years with Zydeco greats Clifton Chenier and Buckwheat Zydeco, as well as Clifton’s son, C.J. Chenier. Once Nathan picked up the accordion at age 19 there was no stopping him. Over 35 years later it’s clear, Nathan Williams has found a magic mix that entertains music lovers and Zydeco dancers coast-to-coast and the world over.
