LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Laguna Beach police and firefighters joined thousands of officers in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Southern California Wednesday. The torch run is the largest public awareness campaign and grassroots fundraiser for Special Olympics, with more than 2,000 officers throughout Southern California participating each year, according to Special Olympics Southern California's website. "The Police, Fire and Marine Safety Departments were humbled to be the Guardians of the Flame and carried the Special Olympics Flame of Hope through Laguna Beach to Newport Beach," Laguna Beach City Manager Shohreh Dupuis said in a statement. "The Flame of Hope represents the courage and determination of the Special Olympic athletes and the joy they bring to those around them while participating in the sports they love.
