SAN JOSE, CA — A South Bay homicide suspect faces additional illegal firearm charges after detectives discovered over 65 firearms while executing a search warrant at his residence. Approximately 25 of the guns were illegal assault weapons, the San Jose Police Department announced Friday. Vu Thai, 38, was already in custody in connection with a fatal shooting last week in the 3800 block of Monterey Road. Detectives had originally obtained a warrant for Thai's arrest after a May 21 road rage incident where he was suspected of brandishing a firearm in a threatening manner in the area of Blossom Hill Road and Snell Avenue. On Wednesday, detectives executed a search warrant at Thai's residence in the 400 block of War Admiral Avenue. In addition to the 25 illegal assault weapons, detectives also found two privately-made firearms and two more stolen weapons, according to the San Jose Police Department. Multiple high-capacity magazines and thousands of rounds of ammunition were also found. Thai is in custody at Santa Clara County Main Jail.
