Here are the top three stories today in Buckhead: A poll commissioned by the Committee for a United Atlanta, a group opposed to cityhood efforts, showed that more than 60 percent of Buckhead voters do not want the north Atlanta community to secede from the city. The group announced on Thursday that 61 percent of likely Buckhead voters said they want to remain in the city of Atlanta, and 30 percent of voters would vote in favor of cityhood. (Reporter Newspapers)The Buckhead Public Safety Task Force has proposed increasing Atlanta police patrols and adding more security cameras throughout major points in the neighborhood. The 22-member task force was created in response to community concerns over increasing crime in the Buckhead area. District 8 Council member Mary Norwood said, "The collaboration from law enforcement on the task force at every level: state, county, and city, was extraordinary. (MDJOnline.com) A record-high 106 Georgia high schools won 185 team state championships this year as GHSA sports created new competitive events. For example, Stilwell School of the Arts won the Class A-2A dance competition sanctioned last year. "This achievement means a lot for our school because we are not a traditional high school with sports programs," said Stilwell coach Brianna Wiggins-Smart, who is a ballet and dance instructor at the school.
