If you’re good at something never do it for free? Most people get good at music because they love it and love playing. 90% of us are not paid professionals, but people who love playing and consider playing a show—-covers or originals—-to be sometimes be it’s own reward. I realize this creates a lot of consternation with the many who think the solid amateur musicians playing for little or no money is hurting the bottom line for the ones that see it as a job. However, with all due respect, those are the breaks if you put yourself in a position where these types of gigs are your main source of income. Also, let’s dispense with the tired, boring and predictable “cover band vs. original band” pontifications. Most decent musicians who have been around the block a few times wind up with a foot in both worlds—-sometimes at the same time. Peace and good luck to everyone finding bands and gigs that fit what you’re looking for.
