Join Friends of the Boston Harborwalk’s Sarah Ritch for a walking tour along Charlestown's industrial waterfront along the mouth of the Mystic River. The tour will include - early colonization and along the river - the 19th century industrialization of the waterfront - the role of designated port areas - current uses including industrial, commercial, residential, and recreational use - future conceptual plans to address connectivity and climate change Attendees will meet at the pavilion on the Harborwalk adjacent to the Schrafft's Building at 529 Main Street in Charlestown (shown above). The tour will end at Barry Field, on the corner of Chelsea and Medford Streets. Transportation options By public transit: From the Orange Line, exit at the Sullivan Square T Station; cross Washington Street, Rutherford Ave. and Main Street; and walk along the Schrafft's Building toward the water. The pavilion is straight ahead. At the end of the tour, the dock for the MBTA ferry to Long Wharf is a 15 minute walk, both Sullivan Square and North Station are a 30 minute walk. By car: Parking is available in the Schrafft's parking lot. The walk back to the Schrafft's Building parking lot from the end of the tour is about 1 mile. By bike: There is a bike parking at the Schrafft's building. There are Bluebikes docks near the start at Sullivan Square and near the end at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in the Charlestown Navy Yard
