What is self-care? We hear this word thrown around all of the time and that we need to be taking more opportunities to do this. I believe self-care is a practice and it is made up of many things. I would like to introduce a space where a person is able to come in and claim that necessary time for themselves, as hard as it is to do. This will be an ongoing series that addresses the ways in which we can begin to care more for ourselves so that we can show up for the people and things in our lives that are meaningful. As a clinician and artist, I will provide a multi modal process in thinking about self-care. Multi modal means having more than one activity introduced to provide a more in-depth lens into looking at a topic. For example: Beginning the class with an easy movement exercise called growing and melting, letting bodies flow freely to music. This is followed by an art exercise in which we will create a container that is significant in some way, it can be a worry box, an intention or goal box, or prayer box. Group members will decorate the inside and outside using various materials. All artmaking practices are meant to be fun and to be used as an outlet. This is not about getting a grade or making a the "best" work. All beings are inherently creative and there are many ways to make art as well as many forms of art. This process involves no skill, there is no right or wrong way to create, it is about the process and allowing the mind to be open and willing to explore! My name is Amanda and I am currently a clinician in the field of human services. My mission has been to help and support others. I believe in shining the light so that others can see their glow. It has been amazing, I have had wonderful opportunities along the way and I have learned so much from what I do. I am interested in giving back to the community by providing my skillset in expressive arts based therapies and allow others to come and make a beautiful mess! This is an outdoor event.
