TAMPA, FL — A Tampa man accused in taking part in multiple homicides has drowned in a river in Missouri. Tampa police were notified by Missouri state authorities that Sherron McCombs Jr., 23, drowned in the Current River. Warrants were issued by Tampa police for the arrest of McCombs Jr. for first-degree premeditated murder with a firearm and tampering with physical evidence in two cases that occurred between Oct. 31 and Nov. 2. Afterward, police said McCombs Jr. and Xavier K. Felton removed and hid physical evidence to cover up their crimes between Nov. 1 and Dec. 15. Then, on Jan. 3, police were called to The Riviera apartments, 8412 Rio Bravo Court, near Riverhills Drive at 2:18 p.m. for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a 20-year-old man lying next to a silver Nissan Altima with gunshot wounds. There were also bullet holes in the driver's side of the Nissan. The man died at the scene. Felton is believed to have been the passenger in the vehicle that committed the drive-by shooting and police believe McCombs Jr. was driving the vehicle. Felton was arrested on March 11 and charged with first-degree murder, tampering with physical evidence and shooting into an occupied vehicle, but McCombs Jr. remained at large.
