SOMERVILLE, MA — The Somerville City Council has approved Mayor Katjana Ballantyne's requests for financial supports for the Clarendon Hill Development Program.
At Thursday's City Council meeting, members reviewed two requests from Ballantyne, one to appropriate $10 million in order to pay costs of implementing the program within the Clarendon Hill DIF Development District and the other to appropriate $4 million to finance part of the project.
"After 7 long years working to get new affordable housing, last night the Council voted to approve financial supports for #ClarendonPublicHousing," Mayor Katjana Ballantyne Tweeted Friday.
The Clarendon Hill Development Program was adopted by the City Council on December 9, 2021. It seeks to redevelop existing public housing units and create new mixed-income housing, open space, and community connections.
The Clarendon Hill development team is aiming to begin construction this summer. For more information about the project, click here.
