Marblehead Middle School Fire Causes Minimal Damage

MARBLEHEAD, MA — A small fire in an outdoor storage unit caused some disruption at Marblehead Veterans Middle School on Friday. Superintendent John Buckey and Veterans Principal Matt Fox told families late Thursday night that two classrooms would be moved on Friday out of an abundance of caution after smoke made its way into them. Marblehead fire said a custodian in the building reported the seeing and smelling smoke shortly after 9 p.m. They arrived to find light smoke in the area of the D Wing of the building and found the source of the fire in a closet that is only accessible from the exterior. Fox said the D Wing was ventilated and the Marblehead Fire Department ran air scans to determine it was safe for occupancy on Friday. "Thanks to the quick actions of the MFD, (the fire) was contained and put out without much damage," Fox said. The classrooms that were moved were engineering and music. "Fortunately, no one was injured during this event, and we send our gratitude to the Marblehead Fire Department and Chief Jason Gilliland for their speed and professionalism," Fox said.
