STAMFORD, CT — A 32-year-old Stamford woman was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon after she was hit by a pickup truck on Washington Boulevard, police said. The woman was taken to Stamford Hospital and the Intensive Care Unit, where she is listed in critical but stable condition, according to Sgt. Jeffrey Booth of the Stamford Police Department. Around 1:15 p.m., police said a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck, driven by a 31-year-old Norwalk man, was traveling eastbound on Richmond Hill Avenue when it made a left turn onto Washington Boulevard. As the truck turned, it struck the woman who was in the crosswalk, knocking her to the ground, police said. The woman was partially run over by the truck, and suffered serious injuries. The condition of the crosswalk and traffic signal lights are still under investigation, but based on the fact that the woman was in the crosswalk, the driver of the pickup truck was issued an infraction ticket for failure to grant the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, police said. The infraction caries a $265 fine, Booth added, noting that the driver is cooperating with the investigation. The investigation remains open. The SPD's Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is asking that anyone that may have witnessed the crash, or has any further information to contact the department at 203-977-4712.
