STAMFORD, CT — A 38-year-old city man was arrested Friday morning after police said he pulled a knife on Macy's security guards who tried to stop him from shoplifting on June 3. Edwin Morales Salguero was arrested around 10:45 a.m. at his West Side home, Capt. Richard Conklin of the Stamford Police Department said. Morales Salguero was charged with first-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, second-degree breach of peace, third-degree assault and possession of drug paraphernalia, with a $150,000 court-set bond. On June 3 at approximately 5 p.m., security at the Macy's department store on Broad Street in Stamford noticed a man who was shoplifting, Conklin said. Two security guards went to take the man into custody, but a struggle ensued and the man pulled out a small knife, Conklin said. The man fled, but he dropped a fanny pack that proved to be a valuable piece of evidence for investigators, Conklin said. Inside the fanny pack was a citation from New York City with Morales Salguero's name on it, as well as drug paraphernalia, police said. Officers distributed Morales Salguero's photo to all officers, but he was not located at his address, police noted. Investigator Kevin Becroft of the SPD used security footage from Macy's and past body camera footage of interactions with Morales Salguero to positively identify him as the man who was shoplifting on June 3, Conklin said. Becroft secured an arrest warrant for Morales Salguero, and officers went to his home Friday morning where they found him sleeping, Conklin said. He was arrested without incident.
