Description
NEW HAVEN, CT — In the spirit of public safety and prevention to make homes and community safer, the city, police, and Plowshares Northeast have again partnered to host a gun buyback event. Slated for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the New Haven Police Training Academy, at 710 Sherman Parkway, it's a cash-paid, no-questions-asked program, police said. And cops say whoever drops off a gun will "not be charged with illegal possession of that specific firearm."
The buyback provides an opportunity for people to dispose of unwanted and unsecured guns anonymously and safely in exchange for cash. The goal is to prevent guns from falling into the wrong hands, such as those of children, suicidal people, perpetrators of domestic violence and criminals.
The event will also promote gun safety and safe storage. For gun owners who want to keep their guns but seek to better secure their weapons, free gun locks and a very limited number of car safes will be provided at the event.
The gun buyback is 100 percent anonymous, no questions asked, and it will take place in a safe and secure location. Guns must be delivered unloaded in clear plastic bags, and any ammunition must be delivered in a separate bag. The person dropping off the gun will not be charged with illegal possession of that specific firearm.
The payouts will be as followed:
Rifles, Shotguns or Derringer-type guns- $50 Handguns (Revolvers & Pistols)- $150 Assault Rifles- $250 B.B. Guns- $10
